Prevent Weeds By Proactively Applying Spring Pre-Emergent To Your Lawn Each Year

At Hobbs Turf Farm, we specialize in providing premium sod throughout Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. We also proudly offer tips to help keep your lawn looking its best year after year.

An essential element of doing just that is proactively preventing weeds that could spread in your lawn. Applying spring pre-emergent can help keep weeds at bay.

Benefits Of Pre-Emergents

When used properly, pre-emergents can be one of the most effective tools for keeping your lawn lush and weed-free.

Just as the name sounds, pre-emergent herbicides help prevent weeds from ever emerging by attacking seeds during the germination process. They block weeds from producing the protein that’s necessary for the division of cells—or growth.

Pre-emergents help control a variety of weeds that tend to reappear annually, reducing hassle and labor for you down the road.

So what weeds can pre-emergents control? The short answer is, just about all of them.

There are a variety of broadleaf and grassy weeds that emerge in the spring or summer, like crabgrass, clover, dandelion, chickweed, and many others. Pre-emergent can help stop the spread of them all.

Throughout Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming, it’s best to apply pre-emergent in May or June, or when soil temperatures reach about 55 degrees.
