Essential Tips For Installing Your New Sod
Laying sod correctly from the start helps ensure a healthy, long-lasting lawn. Follow these steps to install your sod efficiently and effectively.
- If you are installing the sod in the heat of the day, lightly sprinkle your ground to cool off the surface. This way you are not laying the sod on a hot surface.
- Begin installation immediately upon delivery. This will prevent the sod from drying out.
- Start laying the sod along the longest straight line, such as a driveway, fence line, or sidewalk.
- Butt the edges of the sod together tightly and without stretching. Be sure to avoid any overlapping or gaps.
- Lay the sod in a “brick” pattern. Staggering the seams.
Outstanding quality turf with dense grass development, far superior to the often half-dead grass from a “big box store.” Staff are courteous and helpful. They ask that you call ahead with square footage of what you will need so they can prepare the turf for you.

Sod Installation Best Practices
Roll the area after installation to eliminate air pockets and ensure the sod makes full contact with the soil below.
Lay sod according to your sprinkler system zones if possible. This allows you to water each area immediately after installation—ideally within the first 30 minutes.
After completing the entire installation, thoroughly soak the sod until it feels soft and squishy underfoot.
Maintain soil moisture at a depth of 4–6 inches during the establishment period, typically lasting 2–3 weeks.
Limit foot traffic on your new lawn for the first few weeks to allow roots to establish without disruption.
